The EOLE Project

Initiated in 2000, the new EOLE project aims at developing new meteorological tools to be used by the wind energy industry in Canada and abroad.  The WEST (Wind Energy Simulation Toolkit) wind mapping system has been created and continues to be developed to obtain climatological distributions of low-level winds at the meso- and micro-scale.  A second objective with WEST is the short-term forecast (48h) of wind power for installed windfarms.  The knowledge acquired in this project will contribute to improve the quality of surface wind forecasts by the CMC NWP system, as well as enabling a greater use of surface observations in that same system.

For more information please visit the EOLE Web Page.

A major part of the research dont for the EOLE project is an application of mesoscale meteorology. You can reach the mesoscale research group for more information.
