Results from the Canadian Middle Atmosphere Model (CMAM) are analyzed
for investigating various mechanisms which determine the ozone
distribution and variability over climate timescales. The CMAM
resolve the main features of the large scale circulation throughout
the troposphere, stratosphere and mesosphere regions including the
transport of numerous ozone precursors. The model is coupled with a
photochemical module for the representation of radiative and
photochemical interactions between the atmosphere and its
constituents. The CMAM multi-year climatology is presented and
compared against observation based datasets for assessing various
aspects of the general circulation in different regions and
conditions. The study characterizes the transport of constituents in
the lower stratosphere region and the role of specific processes such
as species subgrid mixing and the ozone radiative feedback.
