The Canadian Meteorological Centre and Recherche en Prévision Numérique
have been working in collaboration with the Cloud Physics and Severe
Weather Research Division and a number of representatives from the Pacific
and Yukon region, the Prairie and Northern region, the Quebec region and
the Ontario region to evaluate the performance of a 2.5 km resolution
version of GEM-LAM, centred at various locations of Canada, for its
operational applications. In this version of GEM-LAM the convective
parameterization is turned off and the explicit Kong and Yau microphysical
scheme is used. This presentation will provide an update on the work in
progress. Further, two windows, one over southern British Colombia and the
other over southern Ontario and Quebec, will be proposed for an
experimental daily run in operational mode starting next summer.
