An Overview of Research Initiatives in the Cloud Physics and Severe Weather Research Division

The aim of this presentation will be to provide an update on research initiatives that are being undertaken in the Cloud Physics and Severe Weather Research Division of Meteorological Research Branch. Projects that will be discussed include the CloudSat Validation Project, the Precipitation Occurrence Sensing System (POSS) Applications Project, the Polarization of King Radar Project, the Radar Quality Control and Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QC/QPE) Project, the Global Precipitation Mission (GCM), the Fog Forecasting Project, and the Second Alliance Icing Research Project (AIRS II). In addition, the structure and activities of the Ontario Region National Lab for Remote Sensing and Nowcasting will be discussed. Finally, the National Lab for Aviation Meteorology will be introduced, along with some current and proposed aviation R&D activities.
