Computer Support (Section informatique)

The Section Informatique (SI) of the Division de Recherche en Prévision Numérique (DRPN) is its computer science arm.

It is in charge of keeping the Dorval components of the Meteorological Research Branch (MRB) computer hardware and software up to date and functional.The SI is responsible for the development and maintenance of software support libraries and tools for the DRPN.

Its most popular products are the RMNLIB software library (scientific and high performance modules, scientific database interface routines, ...), xrec and sigma (visualization utilities), pgsm (data field manipulation), editfst and editbrp (data file management tools), and etagere (source code management).

These software components are available on an extensive variety of platforms ranging from PCs (Intel x86) to distributed memory IBM supercomputers under the UNIX operating system.

The SI also provides computer support services to the Dorval component of the MRB (debugging, consulting/design, training).
